A group home for a person who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a facility which provides continual support and help for folks in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled adolescents, but there's also group homes for individuals with a mental health disorder or who are encountering behavioral trouble for example. Rather than sending individuals who are experiencing substance abuse or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum or other similar place, a group home will help provide an acceptable environment to help maintain stability within their lives and also have counsel and assistance at their fingertips around the clock. People who reside within a group home could be getting involved in rehabilitation services whilst in residence, or could be taking actions to get their life set up outside the group home in order to at some time live on their own away from the group home. For example, a troubled youth who has been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or obtain employment. A group home is not really a long-term or permanent answer, but it is a sensible short term option for those who are attempting to get their lives back together.
