Criminal justice client rehabs can be considered like a far better option than incarceration or heavy fines for individuals who have already been convicted of any kind of alcohol or drug related crime. As an example, someone who has been in prison for dui of drugs or alcohol may be eligible to obtain treatment services for his or her problem as an alternative to serving time in prison. The judge may even order that the individual receive rehabilitation, either alone or as well as other consequences. First time offenders in particular in many cases are given the chance to select a criminal justice client rehab as an alternative to other sentencing, and it is highly recommended they benefit from it when it is a choice. The idea behind criminal justice client rehabs is that it is much more efficient and effective to invest commitment into treatment than punishment. Much research has been carried out to observe how effective this approach is on recidivism rates, i.e. if the criminal justice client returns or not to criminal justice system following rehabilitation. The signs and indicators seem to be quite positive, and criminal justice clients who take part in rehabilitation have better potential for remaining out of the judicial system after treatment.
