Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may trigger substance abuse, or risky sexual behavior because of abusing drugs may have caused the individual to contract the sickness. People who have HIV/AIDS, either because of their drug abuse or as a pre-existing condition prior to their drug use issue, often require treatment services tailored in order to meet their specific needs and problems. A few of these problems are physical in nature, because of the fact that substance abusers with HIV/AIDS very rarely look after themselves and take the appropriate medications they need to maintain their health. As a result, these individuals arrive to treatment in very poor physical shape and this will have to be addressed as a priority while addressing other crucial concerns. In addition to the obvious necessity to supply medical services whilst in treatment, people who have HIV/AIDS should also tackle more deeply rooted problems which prompted their drug or alcohol use. Usually, individuals have circumstances in their lives that are strictly environmental which may have triggered them to turn to drugs or alcohol, such as oppressive situations in their lives or damaging relationships. These are the concerns which rehabilitation counselors will give attention to in HIV/AIDS treatment services.
