Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be worthwhile in situations where conventional rehab settings have not meet expectations, for example coping with situations inside a women's life that are distinctive and distressing. Such troubles may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or another serious issues that are particular to women. Research has shown that women also can get involved in abusing drugs more readily than men, and so are more predisposed to illness as a result of addiction problems than males because of this. Due to obligations in the home, women also tend to postpone searching for and undergoing treatment, a situation which can lead to disaster. Being mindful of this, rehabilitation services for women are created to ensure a women's needs are the concentration and priority. Comparable to coed programs, drug rehab programs that provide rehabilitation services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a 1st step. Following this step, counselors help women concentrate on both general and gender-specific concerns who have triggered their drug abuse.
