Individuals who would like to maintain a lot of flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab when they need rehabilitation for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the treatment client to participate in rehabilitation services without the commitment one would usually have to consent to within an inpatient or residential drug treatment program. This doesn't often work in the treatment client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to solve substantial substance abuse problems. So although an outpatient rehab might appear to be an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. People who choose an outpatient rehab will typically take part in meetings and take part in therapy and rehabilitation services part-time every day or several days weekly. This is very helpful for individuals who have recently completed a far more extensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, and for someone with only a brief history of drug use which is usually a really small percentage of clients. For somebody with more significant drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug treatment programs which offer rehab on a long-term basis will be the more advantageous rehab option.
