TRICARE is medical health insurance which is offered to individuals in the armed forces of the United States. Drug and alcohol use within the military is much more common than one would imagine, and the need to offer rehab to these individuals is a vital priority. TRICARE covers a variety of treatment services to cope with alcohol and drug dependence such as detox services, in addition to rehabilitation in outpatient, partial hospitalization and inpatient programs. People who have TRICARE will naturally be required to have a prior approval before partaking in any kind of rehabilitation service, which can be arranged using a regional TRICARE representative. If an inpatient facility could be the preferred rehabilitation option, TRICARE will cover a three week period or one inpatient stay in that facility per benefit period which is every 12 months. There are certain limits as to the length of time a TRICARE member can stay in an inpatient center that accepts TRICARE, and there is typically a 30 to 45 day window that is covered. TRICARE also covers family counselling which is often very useful, as it may help include loved ones in the healing and recovery process. No member of the military should fight this battle alone, and there are skilled rehabilitation counselors waiting to help today.
