Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which provide rehabilitation to address both mental health and addiction issues at the same time. Dual diagnosis is a very common circumstance for those involved with drug and alcohol abuse, as individuals with mental health problems often medicate themselves with alcohol and drugs to experience some kind of short-term relief from their disorder. Within a dual diagnosis rehab, treatment counselors will help people through a comprehensive rehab plan all aimed at restoring and stabilizing mental, physical and emotional health while addressing drug abuse issues. Providing a safe and secure environment is vital to ensure dual diagnosis clients can feel comfortable and remain free from distraction from things that could cut across their program and progress. Rehab counselors will continue to work to identify environmental factors in the client's life including negative relationships or other things which have to be addressed in order for the individual to stay mentally healthy and abstinen t after they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehab which helps them develop more effective coping methods so they are able to better deal with life situations better if they leave dual diagnosis rehab rather than returning to drugs as an inferior option.
