Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may trigger drug abuse, or risky sexual behavior due to substance abuse may have caused to contract the illness. People who have HIV/AIDS, either as a result of their drug use or as a pre-existing problem prior to their drug abuse problem, often require rehabilitation services tailor-made to satisfy their specific demands and problems. Some of these problems are physical in nature, due to the fact that drug users with HIV/AIDS rarely look after themselves and take the appropriate medications they need to maintain their health. As a result, these individuals arrive to rehab in very poor physical shape and this will have to be handled as a priority while addressing other crucial concerns. Aside from the obvious requirement to supply medical solutions whilst in treatment, those that have HIV/AIDS will also need to tackle deeper issues which prompted their alcohol or drug use. Very often, individuals have conditions in their lives that are purely environmental which may have caused them to turn to alcohol or drugs, such as oppressive circumstances in their lives or damaging relationships. These are the issues which rehabilitation counselors will focus on in HIV/AIDS treatment services.
