LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can often feel alone, not understood, and viewed as socially depraved. This is sometimes a very difficult and painful existence, and leads many LGBT individuals to a lifestyle of drug abuse to numb these feelings. Somebody that is LGBT may not feel at ease within a conventional rehab program amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing in their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment that is totally free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and rehab counselors issues which must be handled in order to get better. Rehab counselors within a LGBT rehab can help clients repair relationships with their family members, in the event their family disagree with their sexual preference as is generally the case. This situation is an extremely frequent trigger for drug use, and is also an example of an issue that will be handled in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often simply want to be accepted within their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and create confidence to enable them to lead a healthy life free from alcohol and drugs.
