LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and considered socially unwanted. This is sometimes an extremely tough and painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a lifestyle of drug use to alleviate this pain. Somebody who is LGBT might not feel safe within a traditional rehabilitation facility amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing in their lives. A LGBT center offers an environment that is free of judgment, where LGBT clients can feel totally safe and comfortable revealing to their peers and rehabilitation counselors problems which have to be resolved so that they can get well. Rehabilitation counselors in the LGBT rehab can help clients fix relationships with their family members, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is often the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for drug use, which is a good example of something which would be resolved in rehab. LGBT clients often simply want to be accepted within their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and produce confidence so that they can lead a healthy life free of drugs and alcohol.
