LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are facilities which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can feel alone, not understood, and seen as socially depraved. This can be an extremely tough or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of drug use to alleviate this pain. Someone who is LGBT may not feel safe within a conventional treatment program amongst people who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing of their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment that's free of judgment, where LGBT clients can feel completely safe and comfortable revealing to their peers and rehab counselors problems which must be resolved to enable them to get well. Rehab counselors within a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their family, in case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is often the case. This situation is definitely a common trigger for abusing drugs, and is a good example of an issue that could be resolved in rehab. LGBT clients often just want to be accepted in their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and create confidence in order to lead a healthy life free of drugs and alcohol.
