A group home for a person who has tbeen involved with drug and alcohol abuse is a facility which provides continuous support and help for people in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled adolescents, but there are also group homes for those with a mental health problem or who are experiencing behavioral trouble for example. As opposed to sending those who are experiencing drug abusedrug use or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum and other similar facility, a group home can help provide an appropriate environment to help maintain stability in their lives and also have counsel and support within reach around the clock. Residents within a group home might be involved in rehab services whilst in residence, or could be taking measures to get their life setup outside the group home to be able to at some time live independently outside of the group home. For example, a troubled youth who's been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can try to get their GED or obtain employment. A group home is certainly not a long-term or permanent option, but it is a feasible short-term option for those who are trying to get their lives back together.
