Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which provide rehab to handle both mental health and addiction issues concurrently. Dual diagnosis is a very prevalent situation for those involved with drug abuse, as people who have mental health problems frequently self medicate with drugs and alcohol to experience some type of short-term relief from their disorder. Within a dual diagnosis rehab, rehab professionals will help individuals using a comprehensive rehabilitation plan all aimed at restoring and stabilizing mental, physical and emotional health while dealing with substance abuse concerns. Providing a secure setting is key so that dual diagnosis clients can be relaxed and remain free from distraction from things which could cut across their program and progress. Rehabilitation counselors will continue to work to recognize environmental factors in the client's life including negative people in their lives or any other things which need to be addressed in order for the individual to be mentally healthy and sober t once they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral treatment which will help them develop more effective coping methods so they are better able to deal with life circumstances better if they leave dual diagnosis rehab instead of returning to alcohol and drugs as an inferior solution.
