Individuals who wish to maintain some flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab if they need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the rehab client to participate in rehabilitation services without the commitment one would normally have to agree to in an inpatient or residential drug rehabilitation facility. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, specifically those individuals who need to address substantial drug abuse issues. So while an outpatient rehab may seem like an opportune option, it isn't for everybody. People who choose an outpatient rehab will usually show up at meetings and be a part of counseling and rehab services on a part-time basis each day or a few days a week. This can be very helpful for those who have just completed an even more thorough inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, or someone with just a brief history of drug abuse which is usually a really small amount of clients. For somebody with more severe drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment programs that provide rehab on a long-term basis are going to be the more advantageous treatment option.
