Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be worthwhile in situations where traditional treatment settings have not meet expectations, for example coping with situations within a women's life which are unique and painful. Such issues may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, or another really serious issues that are particular to women. Research shows that women can also become involved in substance abuse more easily than men, and so are more vulnerable to sickness because of dependency problems than males because of this. Because of duties in their home, women also tend to put off looking for and receiving care for addiction, a circumstance which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. With this in mind, rehab services for women are designed so that a women's needs are the concentration and priority. Similar to coed facilities, drug rehabilitation centers that offer rehabilitation services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women give attention to both common and gender specific problems who have brought on their drug or alcohol use.
