LGBT means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are facilities which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and seen as socially unwanted. This is often a very hard or painful existence, and leads many LGBT people to a lifestyle of drug use to alleviate these feelings. Someone that is LGBT might not exactly feel safe in a traditional treatment program amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same problems they are experiencing within their lives. A LGBT facility offers an environment which is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can feel totally safe and comfortable divulging to their peers and rehab counselors issues which need to be resolved in order to recover. Treatment counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their family, in the case their family disagree with their sexual choice as is often the case. This situation is certainly a frequent trigger for abusing drugs, and it is an illustration of something which would be handled in treatment. LGBT clients often simply want to be accepted in their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and build confidence to be able to lead a wholesome life clear of drugs and alcohol.
