Dual diagnosis rehabs are facilities which provide rehab to handle both mental health and addiction issues at the same time. Dual diagnosis is a very prevalent situation for people involved with drug abuse, as people who have mental health issues often self medicate with alcohol and drugs to to feel some kind of short-term relief from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, treatment counselors will help people through a thorough treatment plan all geared towards restoring and stabilizing mental, emotional and physical health whilst dealing with substance abuse issues. Providing a safe setting is key so that dual diagnosis clients can be at ease and remain free from distraction from things which may compromise their program and advancement. Rehab counselors will work to identify environmental factors in the client's life such as negative people in their lives or other things which have to be addressed in order for the individual to be mentally stable and sober t once they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also reap the benefits of behavioral rehabilitation which will help them develop more effective coping mechanisms so they are able to better handle life situations more proficiently once they leave dual diagnosis rehab instead of turning to alcohol and drugs as an inferior answer.
