Criminal justice client rehabs can be considered being a far better option than time in jail or heavy fines for those who have been convicted of any kind of drug or alcohol related crime. As an example, a person who has been found guilty of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol may be eligible for rehab services for problem as opposed to serving time in prison. The judge may even order the individual receive rehab, either alone or in addition to other consequences. New offenders in particular will often be given the ability to go with a criminal justice client rehab as opposed to other sentencing, and it is well-advised that they take advantage of it when it is an alternative. The theory behind criminal justice client rehabs is it is much more effective and efficient to invest time and effort into rehab than punishment. Much research has been carried out to observe how effective this strategy is on recidivism rates, i.e. if the individual returns or not to criminal justice system following rehabilitation. The signs and indicators appear to be quite positive, and criminal justice clients that do take part in treatment have a better chance of remaining out of the judicial system following rehabilitation.
