Offering gender-specific rehab services has shown to be worthwhile in situations where conventional rehabilitation settings have fallen short, such as dealing with situations within a women's life which can be unique and distressing. Such issues may relate to sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or another serious issues which are specific to women. Research has shown that women also can get involved in drug abuse more readily than men, and therefore are more predisposed to illness as a consequence of dependency problems than males as a result. Due to obligations in their home, women also tend to postpone seeking out and undergoing treatment, a circumstance which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. That said, treatment services for women are designed to ensure a women's needs are the concentration and priority. Much like coed centers, drug rehab programs that offer treatment services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women give attention to both basic and gender-specific problems which may have triggered their drug or alcohol use.
