Individuals who want to maintain some flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab if they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehab client to participate in rehabilitation services with the same commitment one would ordinarily have to consent to in an inpatient or residential drug rehab center. This doesn't often work in the treatment client's favor however, specifically those individuals who need to address substantial drug abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. Those that choose an outpatient rehab will usually attend meetings and take part in therapy and rehab services on a part-time basis each day or a few days weekly. This is helpful for individuals who have just completed a far more extensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, and for someone with just a short history of drug abuse which is really a really small percentage of clients. For someone with more significant drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment programs that provide rehab on a long-term basis are going to be the more effective rehab alternative.
