A group home for someone who has been involved in drug and alcohol abuse is a place which provides continuous support and assistance for individuals in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled adolescents, but additionally, there are group homes for individuals with a mental health problem or who are experiencing behavioral problems for example. As opposed to sending people who are being affected by drug abusedrug use or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or other similar place, a group home can help provide an appropriate environment to help maintain stability within their lives and have counsel and support at their fingertips around the clock. People who reside within a group home could be involved in treatment services during residence, or might be taking actions to get their life set up outside of the group home in order to at some time live independently outside of the group home. For example, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can try to get their GED or obtain employment. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent option, yet it's a viable short-term option for those who are attempting to get their lives back together again.
