LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are facilities which address the unique needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and viewed as socially depraved. This may be a very difficult and painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a life of drug abuse to numb these feelings. Someone that is LGBT may not feel safe inside a traditional rehab program amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same challenges they are experiencing within their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment which can be free of judgment, where LGBT clients can feel completely safe and comfortable revealing to their peers and treatment counselors issues which must be handled so that they can recover. Rehabilitation counselors within a LGBT rehab will help clients mend relationships with their family, in the case their family disagree with their sexual preference as is usually the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for drug use, and it is an example of an issue that could be handled in treatment. LGBT clients often simply want to be accepted within their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and produce confidence so that they can lead a wholesome life without any drugs and alcohol.
