Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be beneficial in circumstances where conventional treatment settings have fallen short, like coping with situations in a women's life which can be distinctive and painful. Such troubles may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, and other really serious issues which are specific to women. Research has shown that women may also become involved in abusing drugs more easily than men, and are more predisposed to sickness because of drug abuse problems than males as a result. Due to obligations in the home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving treatment, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. That said, treatment services for women are designed so that a women's needs are the concentration and priority. Much like coed programs, drug rehabilitation programs which offer rehabilitation solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women target both common and gender-specific concerns who have induced their drug abuse. Women also may take advantage of the positive support from their female peers, plus some programs that offer rehabilitation services to women also provide client beds for their kids.
