Offering gender-specific rehab services has shown to be beneficial in circumstances where traditional rehabilitation settings have fallen short, including dealing with situations in a women's life which are distinctive and traumatic. Such concerns may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, and other serious issues that are specific to women. Studies show that women could also become involved in abusing drugs more readily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness as a consequence of dependency issues than males because of this. Because of obligations in their home, women also tend to put off looking for and receiving treatment, a situation which can lead to disaster. Being mindful of this, treatment services for women are designed to ensure that a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Similar to coed centers, alcohol and drug rehab centers that offer rehab services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a 1st step. Following this step, counselors help women target both standard and gender-specific problems which may have triggered their substance abuse. Women also enjoy the positive support from other female peers, and several centers that offer rehabilitation services to women offer client beds for her young children.
