LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can often feel alone, not understood, and considered socially unwanted. This is sometimes a quite challenging or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a life of substance abuse to numb this pain. Somebody that is LGBT might not feel safe in a traditional rehab program amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing in their lives. A LGBT facility offers an environment that's free from judgment, where LGBT clients can feel completely comfortable and safe divulging to their peers and treatment counselors issues which must be resolved in order to get better. Rehab counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients mend relationships with their family members, in case their loved ones disagree with their sexual choice as is often the case. This situation is definitely a common trigger for drug abuse, and is a good example of something which would be resolved in treatment. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted within their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and build confidence to enable them to lead a wholesome life clear of alcohol and drugs.
