Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be very useful in circumstances where traditional rehab facilities have fallen short, for example dealing with situations within a women's life that are unique and distressing. Such concerns may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or other really serious issues which are particular to women. Research has shown that women also can become involved in drug abuse more easily than men, and so are more vulnerable to sickness due to addiction issues than males as a result. Due to responsibilities in their home, women also tend to put off seeking out and undergoing treatment, a situation which can lead to disaster. With this in mind, treatment services for women are created so that a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Much like coed programs, drug rehabilitation programs which offer treatment services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both standard and gender specific concerns who have brought on their drug or alcohol use. Women also may take advantage of the beneficial support from their female peers, and several programs that offer rehab services to women offer client beds for their children.
