A group home for a person who has tbeen involved with drug and alcohol abuse is a facility which offers continual support and assistance for people in recovery. A group home is ordinarily for troubled youth, but in addition there are group homes for folks with a mental health disorder or who are experiencing behavioral trouble for example. As an alternative to sending individuals who are being affected by drug abusedrug use or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or any other similar facility, a group home may help provide an appropriate environment to help sustain stability in their lives and still have counsel and assistance within reach 24/7. Residents in a group home could possibly be taking part in rehabilitation services while in residence, or may be taking steps to get their life set up outside the group home in order to at some point live on their own away from the group home. For example, a troubled youth that has been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can try to get their GED or obtain work. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent option, but it's a viable temporary option for many who making the effort to get their lives back together again.
