Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be worthwhile in situations where conventional treatment settings have not meet expectations, including coping with situations in a women's life that are unique and distressing. Such difficulties may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or any other significant issues that are particular to women. Studies show that women also can become involved in abusing drugs more readily than men, and so are more vulnerable to sickness because of addiction issues than males as a result. Because of duties in the home, women also tend to put off looking for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. That said, rehabilitation services for women are designed so that a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Similar to coed centers, drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs that offer rehab solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both general and gender specific problems which may have induced their drug or alcohol use. Women also benefit from the constructive support from other female peers, plus some facilities that offer treatment services to women offer client beds for their young children.
