Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has proven very useful in circumstances where traditional treatment facilities have not meet expectations, including dealing with situations within a women's life that are unique and traumatic. Such difficulties may have to do with sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, and other significant issues which can be particular to women. Research shows that women can also become involved in abusing drugs more readily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness due to drug abuse issues than males because of this. Because of responsibilities in the home, women also tend to put off seeking out and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can lead to disaster. That said, treatment services for women are created to ensure a women's needs would be the focus and priority. Similar to coed centers, drug rehabilitation facilities that provide rehab services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a starting point. Following this step, counselors help women give attention to both basic and gender-specific problems which may have brought on their drug or alcohol use. Women also utilize the positive support from their female peers, and a few centers that provide treatment services to women offer client beds for her kids.
