Offering gender-specific treatment services has proven worthwhile in circumstances where standard treatment facilities have fallen short, such as coping with situations in the women's life which are unique and traumatic. Such concerns may relate to sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or other serious issues which are specific to women. Studies show that women also can get embroiled in drug abuse more easily than men, and are more vulnerable to sickness as a result of addiction issues than males consequently. Because of duties in the home, women also tend to postpone looking for and undergoing treatment, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. With this in mind, rehabilitation services for women are designed so that a women's needs would be the focus and priority. Much like coed facilities, alcohol and drug treatment programs that provide rehab services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women target both basic and gender-specific issues who have brought on their substance abuse. Women also utilize the positive support from other female peers, plus some facilities that provide rehab services to women also provide client beds for their children.
