Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be very useful in situations where standard treatment facilities have fallen short, for example dealing with situations within a women's life which can be distinctive and traumatic. Such concerns may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or another really serious issues that happen to be particular to women. Research shows that women also can become involved in drug abuse more readily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness as a consequence of addiction problems than males as a result. Because of obligations in the home, women also tend to postpone searching for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can lead to disaster. With this in mind, treatment services for women are created so that a women's needs would be the focus and priority. Just like coed rehabs, drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs which provide treatment services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women focus on both standard and gender-specific problems who have brought on their drug abuse. Women also utilize the beneficial support from other female peers, plus some programs that offer rehab services to women provide client beds for their children.
