LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are facilities which address the particular needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and considered socially unwanted. This is sometimes a very difficult or painful existence, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of drug use to alleviate this pain. Someone that is LGBT may not feel relaxed in a traditional rehab facility amongst people who aren't experiencing the same problems they are experiencing of their lives. A LGBT facility offers an environment which is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely safe and comfortable revealing to their peers and rehabilitation counselors issues which must be resolved to be able to recover. Rehabilitation counselors within a LGBT rehab can help clients mend relationships with their family, in the case their family disagree with their sexual choice as is often the case. This circumstance is certainly a frequent trigger for drug use, and is an example of something which can be resolved in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often only want to be accepted in their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and create confidence to enable them to lead a wholesome life free of alcohol and drugs.
