Individuals who would like to maintain a certain amount of flexibility in their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab if they need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab enables the rehabilitation client to take part in rehab services without the commitment one would usually have to agree to in an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab facility. This doesn't always work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, specifically those individuals who need to solve significant drug abuse issues. So even though an outpatient rehab might appear to be an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. Those that choose an outpatient rehab will generally show up at meetings and be a part of therapy and treatment services part-time each day or a few days a week. This is often helpful for those who have recently completed a much more complete inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, and someone with only a short history of drug abuse which is really a really small percentage of clients. For someone with more serious drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug rehab facilities that provide rehab on a long-term basis will probably be the more advantageous treatment choice.
