TRICARE is medical insurance that's offered to individuals in the military of the United States. Drug and alcohol use inside the military is much more common than one would assume, and the need to provide rehabilitation to these individuals is a priority. TRICARE covers a number of rehab services to address drug and alcohol dependence such as detox services, in addition to treatment in outpatient, partial hospitalization and inpatient facilities. People with TRICARE will naturally be required to get a prior authorization before partaking in any type of rehabilitation service, which may be arranged using a regional TRICARE liaison. If an inpatient center is the favored rehab choice, TRICARE covers a 3 week period or one inpatient stay in that center per benefit period which is every 12 months. There are particular limits regarding just how long a TRICARE member can remain in an inpatient program that accepts TRICARE, and there is typically a 30 to 45 day window which is covered.
