Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be beneficial in situations where standard rehab facilities have fallen short, such as coping with situations within a women's life that are unique and painful. Such issues may relate to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or another serious issues that are particular to women. Studies show that women could also become involved in substance abuse more readily than men, and therefore are more vulnerable to illness due to drug abuse issues than males as a result. Due to responsibilities in the home, women also tend to put off trying to find and receiving treatment, a circumstance which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. With this in mind, rehabilitation services for women are designed to ensure that a women's needs are the concentration and priority. Similar to coed facilities, drug treatment programs which provide rehabilitation services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a 1st step. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both general and gender specific concerns who have induced their substance abuse. Women also enjoy the constructive support from their female peers, and some programs that offer treatment services to women provide client beds for her children.
