Individuals who wish to maintain a lot of flexibility in their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab when they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab will allow for the treatment client to participate in rehab services with the same commitment one would normally have to agree to in an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. This doesn't always work in the treatment client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to solve substantial substance abuse issues. So although an outpatient rehab may seem like a convenient option, it isn't for everybody. Those who choose an outpatient rehab will generally show up at meetings and be a part of counseling and treatment services on a part-time basis every day or a few days weekly. This is very helpful for many who have recently completed a more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, and someone with just a short history of drug use which is really a really small number of clients. For an individual with more severe drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab centers which provide rehab on a long-term basis are going to be the more advantageous rehabilitation option.
