Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may set off substance abuse, or risky sexual behavior because of substance abuse could have caused the individual to contract the sickness. Individuals who have HIV/AIDS, either because of their drug use or as a pre-existing problem prior to their substance abuse issue, typically require treatment services tailored to meet their specific demands and challenges. Many of these challenges are physical in nature, because of the fact that substance abusers with HIV/AIDS rarely take care of themselves and take the proper medicines they need to maintain their own health. As a result, these individuals arrive to rehabilitation in very poor physical shape and this will have to be handled as a priority while also addressing other important concerns. In addition to the obvious necessity to deliver medical solutions while in rehabilitation, those that have HIV/AIDS must also address deeper problems which prompted their alcohol or drug use. Frequently, individuals have situations in their lives which are purely environmental which may have caused them to use alcohol or drugs, such as oppressive situations within their lives or negative relationships. These are the concerns which treatment professionals will target in HIV/AIDS treatment services.
