A group home for anyone who has been involved in drug abuse is a facility which offers continual support and help for folks in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled youth, but in addition there are group homes for individuals with a mental health disorder or who are encountering behavioral trouble for example. Rather than sending people who are struggling with drug abusedrug use or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum and other similar place, a group home might help provide an appropriate environment to help maintain stability inside their lives and still have counsel and support within reach 24/7. Residents in the group home might be taking part in rehabilitation services while in residence, or might be taking steps to get their life set up outside of the group home to enable them to at some point live on their own not in the group home. For example, a troubled youth who's been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or obtain employment. A group home is not really a long-term or permanent answer, but it's a viable temporary option for those who are attempting to get their lives back together.
