LGBT means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are facilities which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and seen as socially unwanted. This is sometimes a very difficult or painful existence, and leads many LGBT people to a life of substance abuse to alleviate this pain. Somebody that is LGBT might not feel at ease inside a conventional treatment facility amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing in their lives. A LGBT facility provides an environment that is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely safe and comfortable divulging to their peers and rehab counselors issues which have to be resolved to enable them to get better. Rehabilitation counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients mend relationships with their family, in the event their family disagree with their sexual preference as is often the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for abusing drugs, and it is a good example of something can be resolved in rehab. LGBT clients often simply want to be accepted within their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and produce confidence to enable them to lead a healthy life free of drugs and alcohol.
