People who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and viewed as socially unwanted. This may be an extremely tough and painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a life of drug use to numb these feelings. Someone who is LGBT might not exactly feel comfortable inside a conventional treatment program amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing in their lives. A LGBT center offers an environment which can be free of judgment, where LGBT clients can feel totally comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and rehab counselors issues which have to be resolved so that they can get well. Rehab counselors within a LGBT rehab can help clients fix relationships with their family, in the event their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is generally the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for abusing drugs, and it is a good example of something which would be resolved in treatment. LGBT clients often only want to be accepted in their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and create confidence so that they can lead a healthy life free of drugs and alcohol.
