Offering gender-specific treatment services has proven worthwhile in circumstances where traditional rehabilitation settings have fallen short, including coping with situations inside a women's life which can be unique and traumatic. Such issues may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, or other serious issues which are specific to women. Studies show that women could also become involved in abusing drugs more easily than men, and so are more predisposed to illness because of addiction problems than males because of this. Due to obligations in their home, women also tend to put off seeking out and undergoing treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. That said, rehabilitation services for women are designed in order that a women's needs would be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed centers, drug treatment centers which offer treatment services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a 1st step. Following this step, counselors help women focus on both basic and gender-specific issues which may have prompted their drug abuse. Women also may take advantage of the constructive support from their female peers, plus some facilities that offer treatment services to women provide client beds for their children.
