A group home for someone who has tbeen involved with drug and alcohol abuse is a place which provides continual support and assistance for folks in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled youth, but there are also group homes for people with a mental health disorder or who are encountering behavioral problems for example. Instead of sending those who are struggling with substance abuse or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or another similar facility, a group home may help provide an acceptable environment to help individuals sustain stability in their lives and still have counsel and support within reach around the clock. Residents within a group home may be taking part in rehabilitation services whilst in residence, or might be taking actions to get their life setup outside of the group home so that they can at one point live independently not in the group home. For example, a troubled youth who's been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can try to get their GED or obtain work. A group home is certainly not a long-term or permanent option, but it's a sensible temporary option for many who are attempting to get their lives back together again.
