Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may set off drug use, or dangerous sexual behavior as a result of drug use might have caused the individual to contract the disease. Folks who suffer from HIV/AIDS, either as a result of their drug abuse or as a pre-existing condition just before their substance abuse problem, typically require treatment services tailor-made to meet their specific needs and problems. Some of these challenges are physical in nature, because of the fact that drug users with HIV/AIDS rarely look after themselves and take the proper medications they need to preserve their own health. Consequently, they arrive to rehabilitation in very poor health and this will have to be addressed as a priority whilst addressing other critical issues. Apart from the obvious requirement to offer medical services during rehab, those that have HIV/AIDS must also tackle deeper problems which prompted their alcohol or drug use. Often, people have circumstances within their lives which are purely environmental which may have triggered them to use drugs or alcohol, like oppressive conditions in their lives or negative relationships. These are the concerns which treatment counselors will concentrate on as part of HIV/AIDS rehabilitation services.
