Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be beneficial in situations where traditional treatment facilities have fallen short, including dealing with situations in the women's life which can be unique and traumatic. Such issues may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or other significant issues which are particular to women. Research shows that women also can get involved in drug abuse more easily than men, and therefore are more vulnerable to sickness as a consequence of drug abuse problems than males as a result. Due to responsibilities in their home, women also tend to postpone looking for and undergoing treatment, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. That said, treatment services for women are designed in order that a women's needs are the focus and priority. Similar to coed rehabs, drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers which offer rehab solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women give attention to both common and gender specific problems who have brought about their drug or alcohol use.
