Individuals who want to maintain a certain amount of flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab should they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehab client to participate in treatment services with the same commitment one would ordinarily have to agree to within an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation facility. This doesn't always work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to solve significant drug abuse problems. So even though an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient option, it isn't for everybody. Those who do decide on an outpatient rehab will usually take part in meetings and take part in counseling and rehabilitation services on a part-time basis every day or a few days weekly. This is very helpful for many who have just completed an even more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, or someone with only a short history of substance abuse which is usually a very small percentage of clients. For somebody with more significant addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment centers which offer rehabilitation on a long-term basis will probably be the more advantageous treatment choice.
