Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be very useful in situations where traditional treatment settings have not meet expectations, including dealing with situations in the women's life which can be unique and distressing. Such concerns may have to do with sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or any other significant issues that are particular to women. Studies show that women could also become involved in abusing drugs more readily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness due to addiction problems than males as a result. Because of duties in their home, women also tend to put off seeking out and receiving treatment, a circumstance which can be a catalyst for disaster. Being mindful of this, rehabilitation services for women are designed so that a women's needs would be the focus and priority. Much like coed facilities, drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities which offer rehabilitation services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women target both standard and gender-specific issues who have induced their drug or alcohol use. Women also benefit from the beneficial support from their female peers, and some facilities that provide rehabilitation services to women provide client beds for their kids.
