Individuals who wish to maintain some flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab whenever they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab will allow for the rehab client to take part in rehab services with the same commitment you might usually have to agree to within an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab program. This doesn't often work in the treatment client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to resolve substantial substance abuse issues. So even though an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. People that do choose an outpatient rehab will usually show up at meetings and be a part of therapy and rehabilitation services on a part-time basis daily or several days a week. This is very helpful for those who have just completed an even more thorough inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, or someone with just a short history of substance abuse which is usually a really small number of clients. For a person with more severe drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab programs which provide treatment on a long-term basis will probably be the more effective treatment choice.
