LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and seen as socially unwanted. This is sometimes a very hard and painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a lifestyle of substance abuse to alleviate this pain. Somebody who is LGBT may not feel comfortable within a conventional treatment program amongst people who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing of their lives. A LGBT center offers an environment which can be free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and treatment counselors problems which have to be handled in order to get better. Rehabilitation counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their loved ones, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is often the case. This situation is certainly a common trigger for drug abuse, and is an example of something can be resolved in treatment. LGBT clients often just want to be accepted within their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and create confidence so that they can lead a healthy life free of drugs and alcohol.
