A group home for anyone who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a place which provides continuous support and help for folks in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled youth, but there are also group homes for those with a mental health problem or who are encountering behavioral problems for example. Rather than sending those who are struggling with drug abusedrug use or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or other similar place, a group home may help offer an appropriate environment to help maintain stability within their lives and still have counsel and assistance at their fingertips around the clock. Residents in the group home might be getting involved in rehabilitation services during residence, or may be taking actions to get their life setup outside of the group home so that they can at one point live independently outside of the group home. For instance, a troubled youth that has been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can try to get their GED or obtain employment. A group home is definitely not a long-term or permanent option, but it is a practical temporary option for those who making the effort to get their lives back together again.
