Individuals who want to maintain some flexibility in their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab whenever they need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the treatment client to participate in treatment services with the same commitment you might normally have to consent to within an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation center. This doesn't often work in the rehab client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to address substantial drug abuse problems. So although an outpatient rehab might appear to be a convenient possibility, it isn't for everyone. People that do decide on an outpatient rehab will ordinarily attend meetings and take part in counseling and rehab services part-time each day or a few days weekly. This is helpful for many who have just completed a far more extensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, or for someone with only a brief history of substance abuse which is really a really small percentage of clients. For a person with more significant addiction and dependency issues, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab programs that provide treatment over a long-term basis will be the more effective rehab alternative.
